Did you read the recent newspaper article which mused about how hourly rates in hotel rooms could only be for hanky panky? Well, any tired, overworked mum would say absolutely not!! Imagine if you could retire to a luxurious hotel room for an hour or two while waiting for your kid to finish his tuition, or art or music class every week! (All hoteliers reading this – Can you guys consider giving harassed Moms a pre-paid credit system to claim hourly rates while we do the school and tuition runs?) I’ll take a nice soak in the bathtub with all the bath salts and aromatherapy candles artfully arranged, pat on a mask and regain some sanity. That’s why I don’t think it’s too far-fetched that some Mother’s Day treats include hotel packages locally, whether it’s a weekend of ‘Mom on a Well Deserved Strike’ or if you want to cram the kids in.

Wangz Hotel, a cute new, barrel-shaped 41-room boutique hotel in Tiong Bahru is offering the aptly named Pampering Pleasures Room Package. Available from now til 9 May, 2010, the good people at the hotel (including a mom and daughter team who also happen to own the hotel!) had moms and daughters in mind when designed this package – for spending quality bonding time together. And it’s one of the BEST value packages we have seen so far.

Priced at $298, it includes a one night stay in their surprisingly spacious deluxe rooms complimentary daily breakfast for two at Nectar restaurant, wired and wireless internet access throughout the hotel, local calls and selected beverages from mini-bar, and Molton Brown amenities. For good measure, they’ve also thrown in a complimentary 60 minute massage (Detox, De-stress or Relax) for two inclusive of a one-way transfer from the hotel to the spa at Cuppage Terrace. And think about it – the Tiong Bahru Market is just round the corner, a treasure chest of Auntie delights! But if that’s not your thing, make sure you have drinks in the evening at it’s rooftop bar – drink in the lovely 180⁰ views of the town together with your martini!

If one cannot spend an entire weekend away – mid-year exams coming! – then make do with a few well spent hours. And who among us doesn’t need an anti-ageing facial?! If all you have is two hours, sally forth to Fairmont Singapore’s Willow Stream Spa (Level 6) for a spa package which they seem to have called ‘Flower Power for Every Mother’. Available through the merry month of May, it promises to make us “look and feel fabulous” (but don’t we always?) and “awaken the feminine energy with the power of botanical aura”! It starts with a 45-min Chamomile Body Scrub, followed by a wildflower bath scented with sage, thyme and lavender, and ending with a harmonising massage, to promote our inner balance! This package for fighting age and releasing our inner botanicals costs $229+.
