Breakaway - Il Salviatino, Florence

The hotels we stay in these days are as much integral to the holiday as the destination itself. In fact, often the hotel – or whatever accommodation you land on – is the destination! Fancy a sweet landing? How about this after a long flight?

(With all the beautifully enticing images they send our way, we couldn’t resist posting this story. Won’t we just want to go there? Beam me up, Scottie!)

Set in the hillside town of Fiesole just outside romantic, romantic (all sigh…) Florence, Il Salviatino is a historic 15th century palazzo turned all-villa slice of luxilicious heaven – and they welcome your preciuos little munchkins, too. If you need that spot of shopping, it’s a short shuttle ride into the centre of Florence. Just remember to get Hubs out of your hair first by sending him on a Ferrari and Lamborghini tours of the Chianti wine region or pack him off with the kids on a private tour of the museums, arranged by the hotel.

KIV this for next Christmas, too. Come December, the city is dressed in lights and a gigantic Christmas tree in the piazza (they had a 12m one last year), a traditional Christmas market in the Piazza Santa Croce (lots of handicrafts), and dancing in the Piazza Signoria, culminating with a Christmas toast at midnight. At the hotel, kick back at the Devarana Spa – the first in Europe by the Dusit Thani Hotels – or feast on the chef’s cuisine anywhere on the property, at any time.

This is no budget hotel, though, so be prepared to pay for the pampering!
