BTW - A New Way To Dine and Kids Cooking Camps

Since Palate Sensations moved to their spacious new digs at Biopolis not long ago, we heard that they are launching some unique concepts. So we know about hands on cooking lessons, and those which are just demos where we sit around and scribble notes furiously….but how about this for a new way to cook…and eat?

With about 2000 square feet of space, the school is planning to hold Cook and Dine sessions where you learn to cook hands on, then sit down and eat communal style. “It can be with friends or strangers so you can bring your own group of friends to form your own table and cook your own meal or if you come alone, you can make friends and join others to cook and then dine with them,” Lynette Foo, the MD of Palate Sensations, told us. “Each week, the menu is different. This serves as an alternative to going out on a Friday night. You make friends, learn something and also get to eat and drink at the same time.” She expects to price this about $100 per person with a glass of wine.

Then there’s also the private dining sessions “for those who don't want to go to a restaurant and are after a different experience but still great food and good company,” she says. Guests sit at the central kitchen and dine teppanyaki style in front of the chef. Once again, it’ll be around $100 per person for a 3-4 course meal. The best thing is, there’s no corkage so bring your bottles and booze up!

Planning a dinner party but just can’t think of where to go? You can also rent the studio and have Palate Sensation’s in-house Exec Chef Christopher Bell cook for you. That’s a great option when you run out of ideas…like I often do.

Finally, one more thing that’s so exciting, and definitely worth noting….The school is holding baking and cooking camps for kids this holiday. These take place over five days with two hours of lessons each day. Baking classes start from 6 December from 10am-12pm for primary school kids, and 2pm-4pm for secondary school kids. Culinary camp begins 13 Dec with the same timing. Each camp is priced at $300 for primary kids, and $350 for secondary school kids.
