Buys - Crocs go from Forbidden to Fabulicious

Summer gives way to Autumn here in Hong Kong and this Summer, I have practically lived in my Croc MARY JANES for very practical reasons.

First, because it has been a sweltering 33 degrees hot every day and my Crocs are the only washable shoes with holes to aerate my sticky feet and second, because the pair I have are covered which is an important consideration when the alternative is losing a nail or wincing if someone steps on your feet in the crowded MTR (which unfortunately does happen alot)!

The brand, admittedly, did not get off to a good start when it first launched in Singapore. I remember 'clunky', 'clumsy' and 'aunty-looking' as distinct adjectives used to describe these shoes made of Croslite(TM) material. There were also a few escalator fiascos where children lost toes when they stood too near the edges and the material got caught in between belts and grooves.

However, in the last three years, the brand has really moved from forbidden to fabulicious and hopefully forgiven.

There are now almost 120 designs since its 7 year inception and honestly, any long-lasting fairly durable pair of shoes that cost less than $100 has to grow on you.

A bit like Swatch, this is a brand that you can afford to love and leave as soon as the next design or season arrives.

New in their Fall collection is LILYan elegant design featuring synthetic patent trim detail with grosgrain bow on the vamp. S$64.15 and comes in espresso with plum ribbon, gold with chocolate ribbon and pure black. Size 4 to 11.

If you want to go glitz, choose the LYDIA MOLDED, a high-heeled wedge which uses a single color for the shoe and sole, highlighted with synthetic patent trimming and a grosgrain bow on the vamp for a sophisticated look for both work and play. Available in gold, expresso and black. S$96.25.

And if you are scouting for a nice Christmas pressie for your little fashionista, consider the MACKENZIE BALLERINA which is based on the popular Mary Jane design complete with a glamorous rhinestone Jibbitz (for
size C8/9 and above only). S$58.80 and  comes in four girlie color combinations in sizes C4 to J3/W5.

Boys - your favourite laid back loafers have a new interpretation. The Santa Cruz Cord is what you would call a Friday shoe.

There is a corduroy upper with a suede heel accent  for enhanced durability. S$80.20 and in 7 color combinations of true red/light gray, khaki/natural, forest/pearl white, espresso/black, light gray/charcoal and black/light gray. in sizes 7 to 13.
